Ok this is a compilation of a couple of my ideas, some from the quad forum, and some from other sources. Types: So there has much literated about the differing types of the contest that we could possibly have so here are a few that have been mention: Template: start from a raw template map and detail a map. From Scratch: start from a blank map and create a map with detailing lighting etc. Create Template: start with a blank map and create a basic layout of a map, very little or no detailing. From Texture pack: create a map from a set texture pack. Campaign: Create a multi level storyline enhanced map pack for single player. Models: create models such as pmodel, or model pack. Options: Some random variables that we could through into the contest to make it look interesting: Live: having a server host a recording and possible streaming of a live event of mapper while they map. Timed: well time is time. We could make this a few hours to weeks. Texture pack: we can limit the textures to any (even your own) or limit it to one texture pack, or set. Team Members: how many people on a team. Ok that all i can think of Lovable Jerk chasester

a very good list, but have all been thought of by me and Jake. what would be interesting though would be to have your live stream idea, and have a speed mapping contest, who can make a good looking map in 10 mins flat, and have different sessions, one at a time, with the same streamer. I think that would be a great idea.

Saying 'They've all been thought of' is not a necessary comment. He is the first to post them.
For live editing sessions, they are a good idea but potentially problematic due to lag and dropped connections.

video submitted: A user hast to create a video of the creation of a blank map to a full map. The user video must include all the time he spent on the map the user video can only be x mins, the users video must not be enhanced in anyway (we can check this stuff fairly easily).
The only problem with this is the movie command in cube is a hack at best. It creates a corrupted avi file which has a semi lengthy process to get encoded correctly.Im not sure about the mac version tho ...

omg, sometimes you make me wonder if you even listen to your own ideas!
Do you have any idea how big such videos would be? Despite using no sound, reduced fps rate and a specific resolution, the result file would be more than a couple gagabytes with no encoding at best. Need i even mention the fact that no user is insane enough to go through all this, and ALSO upload this tremendously large video somewhere so he can prove his "innocence" ?

lol
I honestly dont think its that big of a deal. it takes ruffly 20 min to upload a 10 min video, and you dont even have to be there ditch it and run. If we keep it under 10 mins then we can upload to utube and it would very ez to view.
The rest of your remarks were pointless :0

dude, you're talking about filming the making of a map. this procedure DOES NOT take just 10 minutes, and i'm sure as hell aint gonna edit it to fit the size, neither will the users. you also can't assume that everyone has a decent connection to start uploading videos around, and i wouldn't like having to watch them through.
my remarks aren't pointless, your point of view is full of holes. unless you're basing your points on something you haven't specified, its not my fault you fail. <_>

ok let me rexplain since you have not understood:
It would be a speed mapping contest: 10 min to create a map, you will film all 10 min then upload this film to youtube, you will then upload your map, and then give a link to your video and your map.

You need to compile you video, perhaps convert it. 10 minutes at a decent framerate and resolution can be several hundred mb.
Also take into account people's connection speeds! My old connection had an upload speed of LESS than 10kb/s. Can you imagine how long it would take to upload a 250mb video?

lolz right ya i forget im spoiled, those with dial up and lower levels of dsl may have a problem uploading a 10 min video it may take 1 hour or so ... but u can still use your computer while u upload the video to utube.
I really dont see the problem with it but then again i see there maybe some flaws. FYI none my ideas are perfect ;0

Let me give you an example. With a 10kb upload ( which will likely NOT maintain a constant 10 ) it will take 17 minutes or more to upload 10mb. A decent length video of decent quality could be ranging from 100 to several hundred mb. in this case, that 100 would take well over two hours, and perhaps longer yet because that upload speed would not be maxed out the whole time. On such a connection, there are also high odds of the connection being dropped half way, leaving the uploader to try uploading again.
So, having to upload a video of one's work, I believe is a horrible idea. Some people also lack the computing power and drive capacity to record the initial video, even at low resolutions and framerates. The amount of computing power consumed on some machines would drastically impact their ability to edit if everything is slowed right down or stuttering.

i say we should have a poll about our ideas.
my favorite idea so far would be to have a remaking contest. It would be open to remaking any map from any game as long as they can provide original pictures of what they created for reference.

Another idea:
Theme map: Create a map off a given theme such as Black forest, Dark Dungeon, Haunted House
